Virginia Tech Athletic Ticket Office Allocation Procedures

General Seat Allocation Notes

“Best Available” is a relative term. What one customer considers the best seat in a stadium is often quite different from what another customer may feel. It is this fact that annually causes more confusion for Virginia Tech ticket holders than any other single fact. Below are a few guidelines we follow when allocating seats. Hopefully they will shed some light on what we do and how we do it.

  1. Stadium seating areas are broken into three areas: sideline, corner, and end zone. Each section in the stadium is assigned to one of these areas based on location.
  1. Each section is then broken down into three levels: low, middle, and high.
  1. An allocation sequence is created that works through the seating areas balancing location on the field and height in the stadium.
  1. Matching sections (like 4 and 18 in Lane Stadium) are treated equally. This means that section 4 middle will be allocated, then section 18 middle, then section 4 high, then section 18 high, etc.
  1. A section is not better simply because it is in the lower deck.
  1. All end zone and corner sections are similar, so they are allocated like matching sections described above in number 4.
  1. The first few rows of the field level sections are typically considered the least desirable seats in the section.
  1. We do not finish the least desirable seats in a section before moving on to the best seats in a neighboring section. Often times the middle and upper levels of a neighboring section at a lower yard line will be seated before the lowest level of the section at a better yard line.
  1. We will assign the first few rows of upper deck sections if they are at a better yard line than end zone or corner lower level seats.
  1. Our goal is always to provide the customer with the best possible seat remaining at the time their ticket order is allocated.

No list of guidelines could ever completely describe the process we utilize to assign seats. The Virginia Tech Athletics Ticket Office consults with the ticket office at every venue to determine how they would allocate their venue and incorporates their suggestions into the overall allocation plan. After reading the 10 items listed above perhaps some of the mystery may have been removed from the process. We encourage anyone who has specific seating requests to feel free to ask. We cannot always accommodate a special request, but we will certainly try.
